How to Move your Open cart website from one domain to another

It is actually simple to move your OpenCart store to a new domain. You don’t need an expert or have to study for this. You can just follow the steps and do it on your own.

Step 1
Exporting Your OpenCart MySQL Database

Log in to your existing PHP MyAdmin where your database is located and then choose Export option to export your database.

Now the files are being exported, this database file contains all of your OpenCart Products, Categories and other information which your open cart required.

Step 2
Back Up Your Entire OpenCart Store

Now you have to take a complete backup of all your OpenCart files and save them.You can do this via your FTP such as FileZilla or your host control panel. Make sure you backed up all the required data.

Step 3:
Import Your OpenCart Database into Your New Domain

Now that you have backed up your files, you can move your open cart database to the new domain. Login to your new host PHPMyAdmin area and click “import” and choose the backed up open cart database file.

Step 4:
Reconfiguring Your OpenCart Website to Work on the New Domain

You have to open up two files from your back up of the OpenCart web pages. These files are:

  • [YOUR BACKUP FOLDER]/config.php
  • [YOUR BACKUP FOLDER]/admin/config.php

Replace the MySQL connection values with the new domain name as shown below,

// HTTP
define(‘HTTP_SERVER’, ‘http://newdomain.com/’);
// HTTPS
define(‘HTTPS_SERVER’, ‘http://newdomain.com/’);
// DIR
define(‘DIR_APPLICATION’,’/
home/sites/New-DOMAIN/public_html/catalog/’);
define(‘DIR_SYSTEM’,’/home/sites/New-DOMAIN/public_html/system/’);
define(‘DIR_DATABASE’,’/home/sites/New-DOMAIN/public_html/system/database/’);
define(‘DIR_LANGUAGE’,’/home/sites/New-DOMAIN/public_html/catalog/language/’);
define(‘DIR_TEMPLATE’,’/home/sites/New-DOMAIN/public_html/catalog/view/theme/’);
define(‘DIR_CONFIG’,’/home/sites/New-DOMAIN/public_html/system/config/’);
define(‘DIR_IMAGE’,’/home/sites/New-DOMAIN/public_html/image/’);
define(‘DIR_CACHE’,’/home/sites/New-DOMAIN/public_html/system/cache/’);
define(‘DIR_DOWNLOAD’,’/home/sites/New-DOMAIN/public_html/download/’);
define(‘DIR_LOGS’,’/home/sites/New-DOMAIN/public_html/system/logs/’);

Next, you need to update the database connection settings. Find the code below:

// DB

define(‘DB_DRIVER’,’mysql’);
define(‘DB_HOSTNAME’,’localhost’);
define(‘DB_USERNAME’,’new-opencart-databse-username’);
define(‘DB_PASSWORD’,’new-opencart-databse-password’);
define(‘DB_DATABASE’,’new-opencart-databse-name’);

Step 4:
Upload Your OpenCart Back up Files to Your New Domain

Now that you have done everything, all you have to do is upload all of your files to the new domain server.
